The Journey

Booking the PIA flight to Baku was straightforward through their website, and I managed to grab a decent fare during their seasonal promotion. The ticket came in around 35,000 PKR for a return journey, which felt reasonable for an international route. I arrived at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport about two and a half hours before departure, as recommended for international flights.

The check-in process moved smoothly despite the usual morning rush. PIA's ground staff were professional and helpful, answering my questions about baggage and connecting flights. Security screening took about fifteen minutes, and soon I was in the departure lounge grabbing a quick chai and samosa from the airport cafe.

Boarding started on time around 11 AM. I was assigned seat 23A, a window seat in the main cabin of what appeared to be a Boeing 777. The seat itself was moderately comfortable, with decent legroom for a middle-distance flight. The cabin was clean and well-maintained, with the typical PIA livery and green upholstery throughout.

Takeoff from Lahore was smooth, and within minutes we climbed above the city's haze. The in-flight service began shortly after, with the cabin crew offering water, juice, and tea. Lunch arrived about forty minutes into the flight, a chicken biryani with salad and a bread roll. The food was decent but not exceptional, having cooled slightly by the time it reached me. The portion size was adequate though.

The flight duration is approximately three hours. I spent much of it working on my laptop, which had good charging ports available. The cabin temperature was comfortable, and there wasn't excessive turbulence. The crew conducted themselves professionally, responding promptly to call buttons.

As we descended into Baku, the Caspian Sea came into view with its distinctive blue color. The landing was smooth and well-executed. Immigration and customs at Heydar Aliyev International Airport were efficient, and I had my luggage within thirty minutes of landing.

Overall, the journey felt safe, organized, and reliable. It reinforced why PIA remains a trusted choice for Pakistani travelers venturing into Central Asia.

The Airline: Honest Review

Pakistan International Airlines operates this route with a modern Boeing 777 aircraft, which offers a spacious cabin and relatively newer interiors. The aircraft is well-maintained, and the engineering standards are solid. The cabin ambiance is professional, with traditional Pakistani hospitality touches evident throughout.

Service quality on this flight was consistent and friendly. The crew members were attentive without being intrusive, and they handled all passenger requests courteously. Safety demonstrations were comprehensive, and the overall professionalism met international standards.

Punctuality has been a strong point for PIA on this route based on traveler feedback. My flight departed and arrived on schedule. The value proposition is compelling, especially compared to other carriers serving this route. PIA typically prices competitively for Pakistani nationals, and the included meal service adds genuine value.

The aircraft seats are standard economy with acceptable width and legroom. The meal service, while modest, includes a main course, beverage, and bread. Entertainment options include a basic in-flight magazine and access to the PIA mobile app for flight information. Overall, PIA delivers a reliable, no-frills product that represents decent value for money on this Central Asian connection.
