Masjid Itban bin Malik: Where the Prophet Prayed in a Sahabi's Home

Madinah, Saudi Arabia

Standing near Masjid Juma, I found these ancient remains. This is Masjid Itban bin Malik. The air felt different here. I kept thinking about the Prophet (PBUH) walking on this very ground. He came here on a simple request from a companion. No grand invitation. Just a humble man asking for help. And the Prophet said yes. That is what makes this place so special. It is a story of love, kindness, and faith. Let me share it with you.

From Badr Hero to Prophet's Guest

This story goes back to the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Madinah. Itban bin Malik was an Ansari companion. He fought in the Battle of Badr in 624 CE. That battle was one of the most important in Islamic history. Itban was a brave man. But as he grew older, his eyesight became weak. He was the imam of his local community. He led the prayers for his people. But there was a problem. A valley ran between his home and the mosque. When it rained, the valley would flood. The water made it impossible for him to reach the mosque. So Itban went to the Prophet (PBUH). He made a beautiful request. He asked if the Prophet could come to his home and pray there. This way, Itban could make that spot his personal prayer area. The Prophet (PBUH) agreed with kindness. According to Sahih Muslim, the Prophet came to Itban's home the next morning. He asked Itban where he wanted him to pray. Itban pointed to a corner of his house. The Prophet (PBUH) prayed two rakats there. After the prayer, the family offered food. The Prophet accepted their hospitality. Later, a mosque was built on this exact spot. People called it Masjid Itban bin Malik. Today, only the remains exist. But the memory lives on.

When the Prophet Visited the Humble

This place teaches us something beautiful about Islam. The Prophet (PBUH) cared for every single person. Itban was not a rich man. He was not asking for something big. He just wanted to pray properly despite his weak eyes. And the Prophet walked to his home to help him. That is incredible when you think about it. For Muslims, this spot is a reminder of mercy. The Prophet made time for everyone. He did not ignore the small requests. He treated every companion with love. For history lovers, this place shows how early mosques began. Many started as simple prayer spots in homes. The Prophet's prayer blessed these places. Families then built proper mosques over them. When you stand here, you feel connected to that early Muslim community. These were real people with real problems. And their faith helped them through everything.

Did You Know? The Prophet (PBUH) not only prayed here but also ate breakfast with Itban's family. They served him a special dish called Khazira, which was a meat and flour stew common in early Madinah.
